Description
ASEA S2 Vintage Handheld Robotic Teach Pendant Controller - For Parts
Up for sale is a rare, vintage industrial robotics component: an ASEA S2 series handheld programming teach pendant controller. Manufactured in Sweden by ASEA (prior to its historic merger with Brown Boveri to form ABB), this heavy-duty, legacy operator terminal served as the physical programming and jog interface for classic 5-axis and 6-axis articulated industrial robotic arms, such as the IRB 6 and IRB 2000 systems.
The console features a thick-gauge, textured black composite handheld body integrated with a robust operator panel face. The layout integrates a multi-segment monochrome LCD dot-matrix text display window, a comprehensive 35-key membrane keypad matrix with dedicated numeric and functional programming symbols, a 3-axis mechanical tracking joystick module with secondary toggle toggles, a flip-up protection cover door hiding internal service calibration elements, an integrated left-hand handle rail, and a prominent red palm-twist mechanical emergency stop (E-Stop) safety switch block.

Item Condition
For parts or not working.
This vintage ASEA teach pendant is being sold strictly as-is for parts, repair, technical rebuilds, component harvesting, or industrial museum display. Pulled from a long-retired manufacturing plant facility cell, it shows significant signs of industrial field service, physical age, and loose warehouse storage.
Please note the following critical flaws:
The main multi-conductor interface cable has been cleanly severed directly at the lower chassis entry port housing point
, leaving raw, cut copper strands visible and entirely lacking a wiring harness or multi-pin plug adapter connection.
The front monochrome LCD display screen protective overlay exhibits a single, focused impact puncture hole on its far-left edge as shown in the close-up photo.
Aside from this isolated puncture and the localized tearing around it, the rest of the clear screen face overlay remains flat, unclouded, and in good physical shape.
The rest of the heavy-duty composite outer casing is structurally sound without major body splits or missing chunks, the red safety E-Stop button compresses and twists firmly, the manual joystick moves freely through all axes with clean spring-back centering tension, and all membrane keypad button graphics remain clear. No electrical functionality or signal processing tests have been or can be performed.
